My name is Angie Battig and I just
recently turned 38 this past summer. I was born in South Korea where my
American father met my Korean mother while serving our country in the military
forces. We traveled a lot when I was very young, but eventually settled in
Northwest Ohio. After high school graduation,
I moved to Toledo to attend the University of Toledo and earned a Bachelor’s Degree
in Marketing.
I ended up staying in
Toledo till 2010 and then moved to Puerto Rico to be with my current boyfriend
who was born and raised there. It was an
easy decision as it has always been a dream of mine to live in the
Caribbean. And what a life changing
experience to say the least! Here, I’m coming from cold winter months of the Midwest
to a Caribbean island with warm weather all year round and stunning beaches.
I remember my first
encounter with sea glass back in 2012.
My boyfriend’s family was visiting and we were all vacationing in
Culebra, a sister island about 80 miles east of Puerto Rico. While swimming in the water, I noticed
something green by my foot. As I picked
it up, it appeared to be glass that was partially smooth and frosted. And while
examining it further, my boyfriend’s cousin chimed in to explain that it was
called “seaglass” and the history of how it came to be, the sheer popularity
and abundance.
I never forgot about that
conversation as it always fascinated me, but where would I start looking for
this “seaglass”? So soon after that
conversation, I was suggested by a friend to check out a new beach in Old San
Juan directly across from the capital.
As I walked down the steps to the beach and onto the sand, I immediately
spotted what appeared to be similar “seaglass” found in Culebra in many
different colors here. And as I
continued to walk further along the shoreline, more and more “seaglass” would
appear. After that day, my life had
forever changed!
To date, I have been
collecting for over 5 years now and sell on a part time basis. Puerto Rico is
known for their patterned/privacy glass in many bold colors and red/cobalt blue
colored glass too. My favorite piece
found so far was a wine seal from France dating back to the late 1800’s. To learn more about my seaglass obsession,

Why I, Melissa purchase from Angie: I have known Angie for a few years now from multiple sea glass groups and love her passion about and for sea glass. I love the quality of the glass I have gotten from her as well as the colors! I enjoy hearing about her adventures and getting to know her personally as well through Facebook.
